Muscat
is really a family of grapes, the most important of which are Muscat
Blancs and Muscat Ottonel. One of the most intensely aromatic of all the
white wine grapes, Muscat is also light, making it an excellent blending
ingredient. The variety is also used in the making of sweet late-harvest
wines. Another less commonly found Italian Muscat is called Moscato
Giallo, which yields a remarkably aromatic wine and can also produce
delectable, thick dessert wines.
